More PC Games Need Windows Live or Steam

Most popular PC games need Windows Live or Steam, which should be mandatory. One example being Burnout Paradise, not because it's a fairly popular game that lacks good online play. But because of the fact it's online play requires an EA ID/account, which can only be acquired by going to EA's website to sign up for one in a web browser.

Why should anyone have to do something so bizarre just to play online on any game, let alone one being fairly popular. Although, perhaps Metal Gear Solid 4's online is similar in the way that it required a Konami account to play it, which also was a questionable idea.

I found it quite amusing on the exact same day that I bought Burnout: Paradise on PC, that I googled the term EA ID Burnout or something along those lines. Only to find a forum on the first page dated that very day with many complaining about that same subject I was looking for.

Except for the fact that I wasn't looking for the same help that everyone else was, as I just wanted to see how many online gamers would be too dumb to figure out what to do with such a simple situation like that.

Not to my surprise, a lot of people were asking how to make an EA ID to play the game online. Which I had easily figured out how to do earlier in the day shortly after I had downloaded it from Steam's online store.

That is the perfect kind of evidence needed to say that most popular PC games need Windows Live or Steam for online play. And not just that, but also for achievements almost identical to that that you would find available on Playstation Network or Xbox Live.

It's a shame Criterion Games were too lazy to just pay for Windows Live (despite Microsoft's potentially arrogant asking price) or at least Steam's online service, as online play would have then been as perfect as it could have possibly been. Therefore, leaving the only negative things about the game being up to Criterion Games to improve in any patches/updates for the game or possible sequels/future releases of the franchise.

Despite the fact that right now I have little to nothing to do on the internet while sitting at my PC other than playing an online game, I just don't feel the urge to play GTA 4's single player, Burnout: Paradise or even Modern Warfare 2's fantastic multiplayer. As all I want is to play a sports game with online multiplayer having more than just two players.

All I want is 5 vs 5 or 10 vs 10 in an NBA Live or FIFA game on PC. It's a missed opportunity for FIFA 10 on PC, as I would have definitely bought it, had it included the feature. And since 2K Sports can never be relied on for any kind of an online gameplay experience I feel like I might as well just be playing my PS3 as we speak.
