Judging from all the latest lockout news it seems as if it should be approaching its end. Although the owners just won't budge on a 50/50 BRI split.
As a fan it's annoying to not even see free-agent signings at this point after the season should have started a couple of days ago.
The owner's are the source of the problem, but unfortunately they have all the power right now. For there to be a season at all, the players just have to suck it up and give in. Some players like Glen Davis, Nazr Mohhamed and others have already done so, voicing their frustration on twitter.
It's aggravating knowing that Rashard Lewis, Gilbert Arenas and Joe Johnson's contracts along with other terrible business decisions lead to the lack of team profits league wide. Which has all caused the lockout.
I can understand the player's fight for cash that used to be theirs under the old CBA. But obviously time goes on, things change and why should fans care about what cash sports players get at all? The NBA's bench warmers earn more than 95% of America's population.
Whether they're great athletes or not, they shouldn't be getting that much more than the rest of us anyway. I hate it when players just sign huge contracts without caring about just plain winning. How many yachts do these guys need? They're already millionaires.
David Lee joining the Golden State Warriors is an example of that to me, the Warriors aren't in a position to win whatsoever, the only thing they've done lately to improve their defence is hire Mark Jackson and hopefully also make Stephen Curry in an elite point guard. However, I don't see Amare Stoudemire going to the Knicks in the same way though, as their attitude seems to be about turning things completely around, which by acquiring Carmelo Anthony they appear to be admirably trying hard to do. And even when Stoudemire was the lone star of the team, he was perhaps playing some of the best basketball of his career last season, his defence picked up nicely too.
If I were Nene, Jamal Crawford, Marc Gasol or Caron Butler right now, I would just take the veteran's minimum and join the Heat in a heartbeat. It's a golden opportunity if they want to be champions in the next few years or maybe Crawford should join the Bulls. Lately when I read Derrick Rose say he doesn't play for money, I remembered why he is such a great role model as a player. If you saw Derrick Rose's MVP acceptance speech you would've seen that he's the most humble sports player around. He just wants to win.
I hope the Player's Union doesn't split up, prolonging the lockout more-so. The NBA is as popular as it's been presently as it's been for some time now. It would be sad to lose the season due to greedy businessmen and players feuding over money.
The real losses will be felt by the arena workers, local bars and hotels near arenas and others. The economic ramifications will be felt in all 30 cities. The NBA are going to lose some of their newly found fanbase, the NFL will always be around to cater for them. It's just sad, but with some optimism, hopefully by this time next month we may get to see some basketball.
